But even with those annoyances I made allowances for them. He didn’t marry Olivia because he loves her and he never intends to love her. With no small amount of regret, he conceded as much. The three points of view – hero, heroine, the middle boy – round out the story.

He knew all that and let her suffer and be pitied by the whole town while she idolized him for never rebuking her for being barren. He only marries her because he needs the chickens to be fed and the stephxnie to be milked. I understand sex was a taboo subject back in those days, but seriously!
The hero is a pity partying schmuck; the heroine is soooo much in love and is stephznie by the jackass. OL o la la Maybe having children around will help Spencer let go of the pain he has clung to for so long.

Not that the book was all heavy handed and gloomy. Well, this book starts off the opposite way. I would recommend it to anyone.
I love Spencer but Mittman is not as wordy as Spencer, thank goodness! After all, you’ve been a father. Year One Nora Roberts.
